A Comprehensive Research Agenda
Wiss-KKI is structured into several interconnected work packages, each addressing a critical aspect of AI in science communication:
- WP1: Quality in Science Communication with Communicative AI Developing a principle-based framework to evaluate ComAI’s role in science communication.
- WP2: ComAI in Media Discourse Analysing how ComAI is portrayed in German print and social media, investigating dominant framings (e.g., risk vs. progress) and the emotional tone of public discussions.
- WP3: Emotional Dynamics in ComAI Discussions Exploring how emotions drive engagement and influence public perception of ComAI in science communication.
- WP4: Framing and User Perceptions of ComAI Using experimental studies to examine how media portrayals and chatbot design affect credibility, trust, and user engagement.
- WP5: Engagement with ComAI – User Expectations and Practices Investigating how users interact with ComAI-generated science content, their expectations regarding credibility, and how they verify or share AI-produced information.
- WP6: Engagement with ComAI – Public Perception and Use Surveying public attitudes towards ComAI as a source of science-related information and analysing engagement patterns across different population groups.
- WP7 & WP8: Integration and Tool Development Synthesising findings into a requirement profile for responsible ComAI use in science communication and developing tools to support ethical and effective ComAI integration.
